Jay Inslee branded a hypocrite after climate ‘partnership’ with Australia

Washington Governor Jay Inslee recently gained backlash after meeting with climate change and energy minister Chris Bowen. Here, they discussed how to tackle climate change. This was documented on his Twitter account with a caption and photo-op. The response was over 140 comments with many of them blasting Inslee for his views.

Clearly, not many agreed with him and viewed his comments with cynicism. On Twitter, he wrote: ‘It was great to meet Climate Change and Energy Minister @Bowenchris to start our mission. There are great opportunities for partnerships on renewable energy, transmission, and clean industry. Australia and WA have much to offer one another in defeating climate change.’

One user named Farah Clinch hit the nail on the head when she replied: “We could start with you having a Zoom meeting instead of privately flying via taxpayer dollars across the world. Practice what you preach instead of being a hypocrite.” In fairness, this comment does seem to be very appropriate considering the context.

On a similar note, another user quipped: “Looks like disdain for this wasteful, frivolous, farcical intercontinental virtue signal is bipartisan. In the age of the internet, zoom, and holographic technology did you have to take a jet across the ocean to have a PR tea party about the environment/climate?”

Although Inslee may have intended to play this as a positive, it looks as though his constituents weren’t buying it.
