Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into a fire that took place early on Thursday morning, resulting in the destruction of a playground located in Stonegate Park. The incident is being treated as a potential case of arson, as stated in an official press release by Clive officials.

Upon receiving the call, both Clive police and Urbandale firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 15280 Boston Parkway around 1:51 a.m. The responders discovered that one of the largest structures within the playground was ablaze. This particular structure, which served as the playground’s central attraction and included features such as slides and climbing equipment, suffered extensive damage. Preliminary estimates suggest that the cost of replacing this significant playground feature could exceed $150,000.

As is often the case with suspected arson, there is usually very little explanation in the way of motives other than destruction. In this scenario, the city of Clive now has a destroyed playground for kids and a hefty bill if it is to eventually be replaced. This highlights just how saddening and destructive arson can be and that sometimes it can effect the entire community.
