Iconic Italian Restaurant closes after 41 years of business

One of Cambridge’s oldest Italian restaurants has closed its doors for good. In fact, the eatery has been closed for several weeks now. However, unless you went there in person, you wouldn’t know. Bertucci’s, located on Main Street has closed.

This was confirmed by a sign left on their window which reads: ‘Thank you for all the years – Bertucci’s’. The sign did go into more detail, however, this was not picked up by the grainy photograph. This has also been confirmed by Google who have the venue marked as ‘permanently closed’.

The sign was photographed by a Reddit user who was clearly upset that Bertucci’s had closed. This prompted a discussion in the comments, with one user claiming the restaurant had declared bankruptcy in 2008 and 2022. They also went on to claim that the chain had 103 locations in 2007, whereas they currently have 23 in 2023. While these claims have not been verified, it may show why the restaurant abruptly closed.

Originally founded in 1981, Bertucci’s first location was in Somerville before expanding to surrounding areas. Over the years, Bertucci’s earned a solid reputation and had a menu based on pasta dishes, penne alla vodka, and chicken parmesan, as well as thin-crust pizzas with creative toppings.
