Flying Squirrel Bar closing to reopen as a Chinese Tiki restaurant

September 24, 2023 by No Comments

In a bizarre move, Chattanooga’s Flying Squirrel Bar is closing after 10 years of ownership. However, it is set to re-open in early November as a Chinese Tiki restaurant. According to the owner on Instagram, they decided to switch things up after years in the game.

Part of their Instagram statement revealed their plans, saying: “We are intoxicated by the flavors and the long, bizarrely intertwined histories of American Chinese food and tiki cocktails, and we’re going to dive all the way in. We intend to do justice to the cuisine and show respect to our guests by using quality ingredients, as we always have. This is a major change that warrants a fresh start. We will be permanently closing Flying Squirrel after service on Sunday, November 5th. Sometime later, we’ll reopen our doors as a completely new concept.” The full statement can be read below:

Reacting on Reddit, one Chattanoogan said: “As much as I love Flying Squirrel as it is, I kind of agree. Their food and cocktails have been consistently good quality, if a little unconventional. And I like Chinese food and tiki drinks; I think they’d do them pretty well. The change is bittersweet for me.”

Undeniably, Squirrel Bar has made its mark on the Chattanooga restaurant landscape. With this said locals should be confident that they can make this change work as they clearly have ample experience in their field. With this in mind, we look forward to November 5th.
