New tabletop gaming brewery set to open in Portland this October

Portland, Oregon is gearing up for the launch of TPK Brewing, an upcoming brewpub that is predominantly owned by individuals from the LGBTQ+ community and women of color. This unique establishment is poised to make history as the nation’s pioneering brewery dedicated to tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs), at least to the best of our knowledge.

TPK Brewing will set the stage for a one-of-a-kind experience, boasting a team of professional Game Masters who will orchestrate tabletop roleplaying games with their own original narratives, craft their own beer recipes, and serve house-brewed beer alongside a diverse menu from a fully-equipped kitchen.

TPK Brewing is the brainchild of three online gaming enthusiasts who share a deep passion not only for TTRPGs compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition (OGL 5e) but also for the craft of brewing. The name “TPK” derives from a term in Dungeons & Dragons, signifying the unfortunate scenario when an entire adventuring party meets its demise.

This brewpub is designed to offer a range of gaming experiences centered around an inviting open hearth fire, with options for private, semi-private, or public seating. However, TPK Brewing aims to extend its appeal beyond the gaming community, aspiring to become a family-friendly neighborhood brewery and restaurant.

It intends to captivate visitors with an immersive fantasy setting, where players embark on adventures to explore and chronicle the transformed world of Val’Ruvina. And if that isn’t enticing enough, the culinary offerings include a delectable menu featuring Filipino and Hawaiian dishes, prepared through the collaborative efforts of Hapa Howies and Barkada PDX.

Elliot and Jess initially delved into the world of homebrewing at N. Portland’s Homebrew Exchange and Look Long Brewing. Over time, their brewing hobby evolved into a serious endeavor. In 2018, they completed the prestigious Siebel Institute’s Concise Course on brewing and enrolled in Portland State University’s Business of Craft Brewing program.

In 2020, Elliot played a pivotal role in guiding their employer through a successful public offering in the gaming industry, reaping the rewards of their long-standing commitment. These funds empowered them to expand their vision for TPK Brewing and secure a property at 5051 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, where they intend to unveil their brewpub in 2023.

Currently, TPK Brewing is navigating the permitting process with the City of Portland. Their objective is to welcome patrons as the city’s inaugural tabletop gaming brewpub in the spring of 2023.
