Delivery Truck gets stuck in sandbar after water main breaks

This morning, a delivery truck got stuck at a sand bar on Steiner at Union in San Francisco. This was the result of a burst water mains pipe which led to a build-up of sand and residue. This sandbar was pretty big too, as it completely immobilized the truck in question.

This also led to other, smaller vehicles also falling foul to the conditions which eventually led to the area being cordoned off with road blockages. Since the incident, the road has now been fixed and is back to its normal levels of traffic. Regardless, this still wasn’t good news for those on a morning commute as this undoubtedly caused some unwanted delays.

The incident was uploaded to Reddit where another user claimed to see a cruise vehicle stuck in the same area. Since the burst pipes, it has not been confirmed why this happened, however one reason is that many water mains in cities and towns are quite old, and over time, they can deteriorate.

Corrosion, rust, and wear and tear from years of use can weaken the pipes, making them more susceptible to bursting. Similarly, changes in temperature can cause pipes to expand and contract. This can put stress on the pipes, especially if they are old or made of materials that are not very flexible.
