Cambridge eatery Tibet Rangzen announces permanent closure

Today it was revealed that one of Cambridge’s oldest restaurants had sadly closed down. This closure was abrupt without little warning and was announced on their Facebook page. This was accompanied by a sign on their door which also confirmed the closure.

On their Facebook page, they wrote: “To our customersIt was a beautiful 25 years of experience to serve our cuisine and let you see a glimpse of Tibet. Thank you all for your support, especially during the pandemic period. Now it is time for us to say, so long and exit with dignity and humility. Please, accept our gratitude and prayers. We hope “Rangzen Tibetan Place” will be in your sweet memories. Thank you and Tashi Delek.” Tellingly, this was their first Facebook update since mid-April which is perhaps a sign that they had struggled for several months beforehand.

Sadly, this was the only eatery in Cambridge, MA that offered authentic Tibetan food. It also had rave reviews which shows just how badly it will be missed by the local community. However, its closure may be a sign of the times that many restaurants simply cannot afford to operate under the tough economic climate within commercial real estate. Currently, it is unknown what will happen with the venue and whether it will be converted into a new restaurant remains to be seen.
