Bar owner to sue The City of Des Moines

The owner of the once-popular Zora bar is set to sue the City of Des Moines after the closure of his business. Owner Ed Allen said his business had to close after the city’s public nuisance lawsuit against his bar. This came after a string of public complaints surrounding issues such as noise and rowdiness that were directly linked to the location of the rooftop bar. Not only this but it also featured a deadly shooting in the car park in 2022.

A hearing in the case is due next week. Here, Allen is suing the city for $10 million after he was recently denied bar status for Zora. Despite often being filled with customers, not every Des Moines local was happy about this venue. Speaking on the bar back in March, one person commented, “I used to live really close. I remember seeing the construction during the pandemic, wondering what will come out of the ground. Man ever since this place has been open it’s been one trash show after another” on the popular website Reddit.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether Ed Allen’s appeal will be victorious but one thing is for sure, that this bar was pretty divisive within the local community. Not only this but historically, when going against the city in a legal case, the individual rarely ever wins.
