The South Dakota Department of Corrections Administration Office confirmed that Samuel Boston, aged 60, a convicted murderer, died at a Sioux Falls hospital on July 29. Samuel Boston was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, specifically for killing Richard Gitter, aged 45, in March 2001 in Custer County. According to the case of State of South Dakota v. Samuel Wayne Boston 2003 SD 71, Gitter was found lifeless and unclothed in Boston’s bathtub. During the trial, Boston claimed that both of them were intoxicated, and Gitter had passed out.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Samuel Boston’s account of the injuries found on Gitter’s body changed multiple times. However, evidence presented during the trial, including a camera with photographs of Gitter and the determination that the cause of death was strangulation, led to his conviction for second-degree felony murder. Since then, Boston has spent his life in prison based in Sioux Falls which has spanned over two decades.

The press release from the South Dakota Department of Corrections Administration Office did not provide details regarding the cause of Samuel Boston’s death or the hospital where he passed away. However, information about his death will probably become publically available over the next few weeks.
