A West Des Moines woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly punching her fiance in the throat in the course of an argument.

Ashten Christine Medina, 33, of 9584 Alderwood Dr., West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault.

The incident began about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, when officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 9500 block of Alderwood Drive in West Des Moines.

The officers made contact with Medina and the victim and determined the couple “got into an argument,” and the “victim tried to pack up his belongings and leave the residence,” according to court records.

The victim told police that Medina “put both of his hands on her shoulder and proceeded to punch him in the throat.”

Medina “admitted to punching the victim in the throat with a closed fist,” according to court records. Medina’s “story was inconsistent. The only thing consistent was the punch to the throat.”

Medina was held in the Dallas County Jail before being released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 22 in Dallas County District Court.
