DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines police are investigating a heavily wooded area near SW 16th and MLK, south of the old DICO plant, after discovering what are believed to be human remains.
Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department says officers received a tip Tuesday about a possible death at a homeless camp near SW 16th and MLK. Around 5:00 p.m. detectives located a potential crime scene.
Because it was getting dark officers secured the area and waited until daylight Wednesday to continue searching. Investigators found what appear to human remains and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office was called in.
A forensic excavation of the site is being done.
Police are treating the wooded area as a potential crime scene.
